Separate dry and dirty items
Keep clean cushions, table linens and serving pieces away from soil, tools and wet equipment. Even within one unit, separate bins or shelves can prevent moisture and debris from spreading.
Allow air and water to move
Place storage on a stable, well-drained surface and follow ventilation guidance. Items should be dry before storage; a weather-resistant exterior does not make trapped moisture disappear.
Store by frequency and weight
Daily items belong near the opening and between knee and shoulder height. Put heavy tools low, keep chemicals in their original containers and follow local safety guidance for fuel or hazardous products.
Make the reset visible
A short label or inventory list helps everyone return objects to the same place. Leave enough open capacity for a cushion or accessory that needs temporary shelter when weather changes.
A practical checklist
- Use a level, drained location
- Dry items before closing storage
- Separate textiles from tools
- Keep heavy objects low
